Production Unit Manager
Location: Janesville, Wisconsin
Salary: $100,000 to $125,000 + Bonus $16,000
Position Summary:
The Production Unit operates as an integral part of our overall business structure, and the individual serving as the Production Unit Manager holds accountability for the logistics and business unit(s)' performance. This includes, but is not restricted to, profit and loss (P/L) responsibility, as well as overseeing the leadership of the assigned production and logistics teams. The Production Unit Manager is tasked with ensuring these teams consistently enhance their performance, striving to meet or surpass the specified goals for crucial Quality Operating System (QOS) metrics
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Essential Function satisfactorily. The items listed below are representative of these essential functions for this role and may not be a comprehensive list of duties, responsibilities, or expectations.
- Champion the production teams' performance in key Quality Operating System (QOS) metrics, such as gross margins, scrap, rework, direct labor costs, labor efficiency, safety, equipment utilization (OEE), on-time delivery, material usage variance, overtime costs, customer complaints, and expense spending.
- Distribute and review production performance reports to address operational issues, ensuring cost-effective production and ongoing customer satisfaction.
- Lead the development of short-term and long-term manufacturing strategies and goals aligned with Divisional strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives ensuring overall site performance.
- Champion the creation of annual budgets for departments, covering staffing levels, expense spending, QOS metric targets, and capital spending.
- Lead the planning and execution of production, logistics, and warehouse operations to ensure efficient schedule development, clear communication of priorities to the floor, and alignment with overall business goals.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback for both Production Supervisors and Shipping/Receiving Leaders to ensure cohesive team performance across manufacturing and logistics functions.
- Lead cross-functional teams—including production and logistics—in areas related to training system development, performance evaluations, personnel development, quality/safety/environmental compliance, and support HR in creating and managing recruiting and retention strategies.
- Lead collaborative efforts with departments such as Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Care, and Manufacturing Engineering to achieve key QOS metrics, timely completion of assigned actions, and maintain high customer satisfaction levels.
- Communicate key outputs and insights from the monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process to stakeholders across production, logistics, and warehouse operations, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and demand planning objectives.
- Administer departmental policies and procedures, evaluate results and performance, and contribute to the development of new or modified budgets, strategic plans, or policies.
